An Eight days trek to Kilimanjaro, the highest Mountain in Africa and the highest free standing Mountain in the World, though the new route of Rongai known be to more scenic than Marangu, easier than the Machame Route and the success rate on the Rongai is high. Unlike Marangu Route where you will in huts, on the Rongai accommodation is Basic whereby guest will sleep in the tented camps that will be pitched by our trekking crew. Rongai starts from the North side of the mountain just South of the Kenyan border and its one of the least used routes. Our private vehicle will take you TO and pick you FROM the starting point of the trek.

Weather and temperature vary according to the season in which you decide to climb; and, whichever season you choose, both vary according to the altitude. While it might be 20 C down in the rainforest section of the climb, up in the crater the temperature could be as low as -20 C. Climbers must be prepared for these huge variations, choosing their clothing accordingly. A waterproof should be close to hand at all times and layers of clothing used to maximise flexibility.

Itinerary

Day 1

KILIMANJARO INT. AIRPORT TO ARUSHA.

On your arrival at Kilimanjaro Int. Airport, Our driver-guide will happily pick you from the airport to the hotels in Arusha. Drive will take 1hr.

Day 2

ARUSHA TO NALE MURU GATE TO SIMBA CAMP.

Your day starts early with breakfast and briefing, we depart around 8.30am and expect to arrive at Nale Muru Gate around 13.00pm where will be served Lunch.

We are ready to start trekking after finish registration process and meet our brevets trekking crew. We walk through the cultivated area and pine forest and slowly approach the lush forest where colobus Monkeys can sometimes be seen. After a walking distance of 6km and walking time of 3hrs, we expect to reach Simba Camp by 17.00 for rest, dinner and overnight.

Distance – 3hrs from Nale Muru to Simba Camp.

Day 3

SIMBA CAMP TO KIKELELWA CAMP.

Today we continue the hike through the second Cave to Kikelelwa Camp. After breakfast we set our depart around 8.00am, our walking distance of 16km though the ascent of over 1000 metres.

6 – 7hrs is expected to be the walking time to cover 16km. On clear days you can see over the border to neighbourhood country of Kenya, Our path is steady, steep and dusty ascent. Picnic Lunch is to be served around 13.00 before heading to the south-eastern of Mawenzi Peak.

17.00 is an approximate arrival time to Kikelelwa Camp, where our dinner and overnight is to be host.

Distance – 6-7hrs from Simba to Kikelelwa Camp.

Day 4

KIKELELWA CAMP TO MAWENZI TARN CAMP.

Today we have a late breakfast at 08.00 and be ready to depart around 09.00am. We do a short steep climb up to grassy slopes with an incredible view around and a tangible sense of wildness. A short distance just over 3km and ascending over 600 metres that will take around 3-4hrs of walking time.

Shortly after we have left the vegetation behind we reach the Mawenzi Tarn, which is situated in spectacular cirque direct beneath the towering the towering spires of Mawenzi.

13.00 be the expected time to reach the campsite, where lunch will be served. Others will like to use their afternoon to explore the spectacular nature around, if you are lucky enough to experience clear weather, the view of Kibo is astonishing.

Distance – 4hrs from Kikelelwa to Mawenzi Tarn Camp.

Day 5

MAWENZI TARN CAMP TO KIBO CAMP.

After an early breakfast and depart around 8.30am. Today we cross the lunar desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, distance of 9km with the walking time of 3-4hrs is expected. We will have to stop on the way for a picnic lunch before continuing climbing Kibo, which we expect to reach our Camping site around 15.30 and dinner is served at 17.30. Reminder of the day is spent resting in preparation to the Summit day.

Distance – 5hrs from Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Camp.

Day 6

KIBO CAMP TO SUMMIT TO HOROMBO CAMP.

Up early, Wake at midnight to a light breakfast, then prepare for your Summit day. The goal is to climb before dawn so you can reach Uhuru Peak shortly after sunrise. We have around 1175 metres to climb with around 13hrs of walking time to cover the distance of 21km.

As it’s by far the most challenging part of the trek, today we focus on walking slow to cut off the reference points from Williams point 5131 metres to Hans Myer Cave 5259 and lastly Gillman´s point 5719 metres. After reaching the African highest Point, will of course cheer each other up, celebrating our glorious climb while taking photos of our pride, then after we set our return to Kibo Hut, where we will be welcomed by a hot lunch around 12.00, followed by a short break before continuing to descent down to Horombo Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 7

HOROMBO CAMP TO MARANGU GATE TO ARUSHA.

It’s the first morning from accomplishing the Real Deal. The feeling is still fresh! Breakfast is served at 7.00am and read to depart at 9.00am, before that its a good time to give back to our fantastic and helpful climbing crew `Tipping ́,

Then after we continue to descend further to Marangu Gate, we pause at Mandara for a delicious lunch around 12.00, we expect to reach Marangu Gate at 16.00 after covering a distance of 20km and between 6-7hrs be approximately the walking time. You will be awarded a Certificate to recognise the massive effort you have shown.

Our private Safari vehicle will be waiting for us at Marangu Gate, for a ride to the hotel in Arusha, where you will have a pleasant rest. After-all you have been to the highest point in Africa, feel free to continue the celebration if you still have the energy.

Day 8

ARUSHA TO KILIMANJARO INT. AIRPORT.

After a pleasant night at the hotel in Arusha, you will be served breakfast a little late within a checking-out time at 10.00am ( feel free to add more days in Arusha under your cost and please inform us in advance)

If you have booked a transfer to airport, you will be picked from the hotel by our driver and drop you at the Airport. For those travellers who booked to go to Safari, our Driver-Guide will meet you at the hotel for Safari briefing.
