This is the second most popular route and considered as the most beautiful route up to the legendary Mt. Kilimanjaro. With a gradual ascent through the forest you emerge to see wide views of  moorlands on Shira Plateau, Kibo and Western Breach.With a total trip time of Nine Days will ensure us more acclimatisation time and better chance to reach the peak point in Africa. Our private vehicle will take you TO and pick you FROM the starting point of the trek. Accommodation under this route is Basic, whereby guest will sleep in tented camps.

Weather and temperature vary according to the season in which you decide to climb; and, whichever season you choose, both vary according to the altitude. While it might be 20 C down in the rainforest section of the climb, up in the crater the temperature could be as low as -20 C. Climbers must be prepared for these huge variations, choosing their clothing accordingly. A waterproof should be close to hand at all times and layers of clothing used to maximise flexibility.

Itinerary

Day 1

KILIMANJARO INT. AIRPORT TO ARUSHA.

On your arrival at Kilimanjaro Int. Airport, Our driver-guide will happily pick you from the airport to the hotels in Arusha. Drive will take 1hr.

Day 2

ARUSHA TO MACHAME GATE TO MACHAME CAMP.

After breakfast, We drive from Arusha to Machame Gate (About 45min). After registering process we start our trek alongside a clear trail through plantation and natural forest, then follow a narrow forest path to the Machame Camp that stands 9000 ft high.

We will cover a distance of 11km that takes around 4.5 – 5hrs walking time,We expect to reach Machame Campsite in the late afternoon, dinner will be served here followed by a well deserved rest before overnight.

Distance – 5hrs from Machame Gate to Machame Camp.

Day 3

MACHAME CAMP TO SHIRA CAVE.

As usually, we take an early breakfast around 7.00am and we aim to leave the camp at 8.30am. We ascend through the forest and alongside ridge passing through heather and open moorlands. 5km is a distance to be covered today with a walking time of 4 – 5hrs through dusty, narrow and steep.

14.00 is expected to be arrival time to Shira Cave, at the camp we will have enough time to enjoy a beautiful sight of Shira Cathedral, Klute peak and Mt. Meru before we call it a day while relishing our delicious dinner.

Distance – 4 – 5hrs from Machame Camp to Shira Camp.

Day 4

SHIRA CAVE TO BARRANCO CAMP.

After breakfast, we will ascend to Lava Tower that stands 15,180 ft high. The overall distance of around 10km is to be covered with an approximate 6 – 7hrs walking time.

Our picnic Lunch will be taken at around 13.00. Then after, we take our trek to another level passing the Lava Tower as our highest point of the day followed by descending down to Barranco Camp for a well rested while enjoying the beautiful nature around us, Dinner is to be served around 19.00

Distance – 7hrs from Shira Camp to Barranco Camp.

Day 5

BARRANCO CAMP TO KARANGA CAMP.

We take breakfast around 7.30am, a walking time of 3.5-4hrs is expected to cover the distance of 4km. We will depart from Barranco Camp at 08.30am and arrive at Karanga Camp around 13.00 where our delicious dinner will be served, then you will have a pleasant rest while examining your highlight of the day before dinner and a calm night of sleep.

Distance – 4hrs from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp.

Day 6

KARANGA CAMP TO BARAFU CAMP.

Today it’s also a short day in distance wise, We will have our breakfast at 7.30am and start our hike around 8.30am. Ascending about 500 metres at a distance of 5km with the walking time between 3.5-4hrs. We expect to be at Barafu Camp at 13.00 where our hot lunch will be served.

Today’s dinner will be served a bit earlier as it is a summit day ahead of us, So it’s important to relax enough and make ourselves ready for a challenging but promising next day.

Distance – 4hrs from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp.

Day 7

BARAFU CAMP TO UHURU SUMMIT TO MWEKA CAMP.

Today it’s a big day for all of us, the sense to achieve our goal is undeniable, to be at the roof of Africa is the real deal, it is also the most challenging day. We wake up at midnight around 23.00 and have a small snack to energise our body and ready to depart. Our first challenge will be to climb from 4600 metres to 5745 metres then another 150 metres of ascent and 45min of walk to the Summit.

The goal is to reach the Summit point at 07.00am, then the endless joy with lots of celebrations while taking photos of the life-time-experience will be our main activity on the roof of Africa. After the Summit we take our way back to Barafu for a hot lunch before descend to Mweka Camp for dinner and overnight. In total we cover 17km with about 13hrs walking time.

Distance – 13hrs from Barafu to Mweka Camp.

Day 8

MWEKA CAMP TO MWEKA GATE TO ARUSHA.

It’s the first morning from accomplishing the Real Deal. The feeling is still fresh! Breakfast is served at 7.00am and read to depart at 9.00am, before that its a good time to give back to our fantastic and helpful climbing crew `Tipping ́then after descend to Mweka Gate stand 1640 metres high, here is where we will be served lunch while receiving your well deserved Certificate. Then after followed by the ride back to Arusha for more relaxation activities and celebrations.

Day 9

ARUSHA TO KILIMANJARO INT. AIRPORT.

After a pleasant night at the hotel in Arusha, you will be served breakfast a little late within a checking-out time at 10.00am ( feel free to add more days in Arusha under your cost and please inform us in advance)

If you have booked a transfer to airport, you will be picked from the hotel by our driver and drop you at the Airport. For those travellers who booked to go to Safari, our Driver-Guide will meet you at the hotel for Safari briefing.
