Tour Plan

  • Day 1: Arusha - Machame Gate (1,800m) – Machame Camp (3,000m)
Walking: 5–7 hours | Distance: ~11 km | Elevation Gain: +1,200m Begin your adventure at Machame Gate after registration and briefing before entering the rainforest zone of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail climbs steadily through dense tropical forest filled with giant trees, vines, moss, and rich biodiversity. The atmosphere is humid, green, and alive with bird calls and occasional sightings of colobus monkeys. The path can be muddy and slippery depending on weather conditions, requiring steady pacing. As you ascend, the forest gradually thins and gives way to heather zones. After 5–7 hours of hiking covering approximately 11 km, you arrive at Machame Camp at 3,000m. Dinner is served at camp, followed by rest and overnight acclimatization.
  • Day 2: Machame Camp (3,000m) – Shira Camp (3,840m)
Walking: 4–6 hours | Distance: ~5 km | Elevation Gain: +840m After breakfast, leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone with open landscapes, volcanic rock formations, and wide mountain views. The trail becomes steeper but shorter in distance, offering dramatic scenery of Kibo Peak. Vegetation becomes sparse with giant lobelias and senecios dominating the landscape. The air is cooler and thinner as altitude increases. You hike at a steady pace to allow proper acclimatization. After 4–6 hours covering about 5 km, you reach Shira Camp at 3,840m. From here, enjoy panoramic sunset views over the plains and Mount Meru in the distance before dinner and overnight stay.
  • Day 3: Shira Camp (3,840m) – Lava Tower (4,630m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m)
Walking: 6–8 hours | Distance: ~10 km | Elevation: +790m / -670m Today is an important acclimatization day on Mount Kilimanjaro. You ascend to Lava Tower at 4,630m, a dramatic volcanic formation where altitude effects begin to be felt. The trail is rocky, exposed, and challenging but rewarding with spectacular views. After lunch at high altitude, descend into the beautiful Barranco Valley. This "climb high, sleep low" strategy helps the body adjust better. The descent passes through unique alpine vegetation and dramatic landscapes. After 6–8 hours covering about 10 km, arrive at Barranco Camp at 3,960m for dinner and overnight stay beneath the towering Barranco Wall.
  • Day 4: Barranco Camp (3,960m) – Karanga Camp (4,035m)
Walking: 4–5 hours | Distance: ~5 km | Elevation Gain: +75m Start the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical scramble offering thrilling views of valleys and glaciers. This section is one of the most exciting parts of the Machame Route. After the wall, the trail undulates across ridges and valleys with stunning scenery of Kibo Peak. The hike is shorter today but includes multiple ups and downs for acclimatization. Vegetation is sparse alpine desert. After 4–5 hours covering about 5 km, arrive at Karanga Camp at 4,035m. Rest, hydrate, and prepare for summit base camp.
  • Day 5: Karanga Camp (4,035m) – Barafu Camp (4,673m)
Walking: 3–4 hours | Distance: ~4 km | Elevation Gain: +638m Today is a short but important ascent toward summit base camp. The terrain becomes dry, rocky, and harsh as you enter alpine desert conditions. Views of Kibo Peak become increasingly close and dramatic. The air is thinner, requiring slow and controlled pacing. After 3–4 hours covering about 4 km, arrive at Barafu Camp at 4,673m. Rest early, hydrate well, and prepare for the midnight summit push to Uhuru Peak on Mount Kilimanjaro.
  • Day 6: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Walking: 12–15 hours | Distance: ~17 km | Elevation: +1,222m / -2,795m Around midnight, begin your summit attempt in freezing conditions, climbing steep scree and volcanic ash toward Stella Point and finally Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Reaching the summit at sunrise is an unforgettable achievement. After celebration and photos, descend carefully back to Barafu Camp for rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp. This is the longest and most physically demanding day on Mount Kilimanjaro. After 12–15 hours of trekking covering about 17 km, arrive at Mweka Camp for overnight recovery.
  • Day 7: Mweka Camp (3,100m) – Mweka Gate (1,640m) - Arusha
Walking: 3–4 hours | Distance: ~10 km | Elevation Loss: -1,460m Final descent takes you through lush rainforest back to Mweka Gate. The trail is easy and relaxing compared to summit day, passing through tropical vegetation filled with birds and monkeys. As you descend, oxygen levels increase and fatigue begins to fade. After 3–4 hours covering about 10 km, arrive at the gate where you receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Arusha for rest and celebration, marking the successful completion of your Kilimanjaro climb.
