Tour Plan

  • Day 1: Lemosho Gate (2,100m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)
Walking: 3–4 hrs | Distance: ~7 km | Elevation Gain: +720m Start at Lemosho Gate after registration before entering the rainforest zone of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail winds through dense tropical forest filled with tall trees, vines, moss, and rich biodiversity. You may encounter colobus monkeys and colorful birdlife along the way. The terrain is soft, humid, and peaceful with gentle ascent suitable for initial acclimatization. After 3–4 hours covering about 7 km, arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp at 2,820m, located deep within the forest. Dinner is served and overnight stay allows your body to begin adjusting to altitude.
  • Day 2: Mti Mkubwa (2,820m) – Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)
Walking: 5–6 hrs | Distance: ~8 km | Elevation Gain: +680m Leave the rainforest and enter heath and moorland zones with giant heathers and volcanic landscapes. The trail becomes more open with wide views of Kibo Peak appearing in the distance. Vegetation becomes sparse as altitude increases steadily. The climb is gradual but longer, requiring steady pacing and hydration. The scenery becomes more dramatic with lava formations and alpine flora. After 5–6 hours covering approximately 8 km, arrive at Shira 1 Camp at 3,500m on the vast Shira Plateau. Enjoy sunset views over the plains before dinner and overnight rest.
  • Day 3: Shira 1 (3,500m) – Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)
Walking: 3–4 hrs | Distance: ~7 km | Elevation Gain: +350m A short acclimatization hike across the Shira Plateau, one of the oldest volcanic zones of Mount Kilimanjaro. The terrain is open, rocky, and scenic with panoramic mountain views. You walk at a relaxed pace to adapt to increasing altitude. Weather becomes cooler and windier as you ascend slightly. The landscape offers wide photography opportunities with glaciers visible in the distance. After 3–4 hours covering about 7 km, arrive at Shira 2 Camp at 3,850m for rest, dinner, and overnight stay under open mountain skies.
  • Day 4: Shira 2 (3,850m) – Lava Tower (4,630m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m)
Walking: 7–8 hrs | Distance: ~10 km | Elevation: +780m / -670m Today is a key acclimatization day as you ascend to Lava Tower at 4,630m. The trail becomes rocky and exposed with dramatic volcanic scenery. Altitude begins to affect breathing, so slow pacing is essential. After lunch at Lava Tower, descend into Barranco Valley through unique alpine vegetation zones. This "climb high, sleep low" strategy improves summit success. After 7–8 hours covering about 10 km, arrive at Barranco Camp at 3,960m beneath the impressive Barranco Wall for overnight rest.
  • Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,960m) – Karanga Camp (4,035m)
Walking: 4–5 hrs | Distance: ~5 km | Elevation Gain: +75m Start the day climbing the famous Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical scramble with incredible views. After reaching the top, continue through rolling ridges and valleys with glaciers and volcanic scenery of Mount Kilimanjaro. The hike is shorter but includes multiple ascents and descents for acclimatization. Vegetation is sparse alpine desert. After 4–5 hours covering about 5 km, arrive at Karanga Camp at 4,035m for rest and preparation for summit base camp.
  • Day 6: Karanga (4,035m) – Barafu Camp (4,673m)
Walking: 3–4 hrs | Distance: ~4 km | Elevation Gain: +638m A short but important ascent into harsh alpine desert terrain. Vegetation disappears completely as you approach Barafu Camp, the final base before the summit. The landscape is dry, rocky, and exposed with strong winds and cold temperatures. Views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks dominate the horizon. After 3–4 hours covering about 4 km, arrive at Barafu Camp at 4,673m. Rest early, hydrate, and prepare for midnight summit attempt to Uhuru Peak.
  • Day 7: Summit – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Walking: 12–15 hrs | Distance: ~17 km | Elevation: +1,222m / -2,795m Begin summit climb at midnight under freezing conditions. The trail is steep and mentally demanding as you ascend toward Stella Point and finally Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895m on Mount Kilimanjaro. Sunrise at the summit is unforgettable. After celebration, descend to Barafu Camp for rest, then continue to Mweka Camp for overnight recovery. This is the most challenging day of the entire trek.
  • Day 8: Mweka Camp (3,100m) – Mweka Gate (1,640m) - Arusha
Walking: 3–4 hrs | Distance: ~10 km | Elevation Loss: -1,460m Descend through lush rainforest back to Mweka Gate. The trail is easier and refreshing with birds, monkeys, and dense vegetation. Oxygen levels increase as you descend, and fatigue fades gradually. After 3–4 hours covering about 10 km, arrive at the gate for certificate award and transfer to Arusha.
